STATEWIDE — The Pennsylvania Game Commission is asking hunters and residents to help spot wild turkey flocks for ongoing research. Officials say sightings can be reported online through to help crews locate birds for winter trapping.
The Pennsylvania Game Commission says turkeys will be trapped, leg-banded, and released on site, continuing a program used the past six winters. No birds will be relocated or fitted with transmitters this year.
Wild turkey biologist Reina Tyl says public reports are critical for monitoring harvest rates and overall population health. Hunters who harvest banded turkeys are encouraged to report band numbers online or by phone.
