LEWISBURG— The First Lady of Pennsylvania continued her “Schools that Teach” Tour with a stop at Lewisburg Area School District’s Kelly Elementary School Thursday.  Frances Wolf sat down with teachers and administrators for a roundtable discussion.

Dr. Mark DiRocco, Lewisburg Superintendent, says they received the call Tuesday asking if it was okay to make the stop, “She wasn’t here to give talking points from the Governor or the Governor’s staff. She was here to listen to what our concerns are, what our needs are and how Harrisburg can help us — which is refreshing.”

Chris Ruhl, Principal  of Kelly Elementary School, says an increase in school funding would provide a better quality of education, “I fully support the increased funding for Pre-K education.  I think that it’s critical that more and more students around the state are able to get good quality preschool education so when they come to school they are prepared for the increased requirements we have for them.”

After speaking with the educators, Mrs. Wolf ended her trip reading Should I Share My Ice Cream to a kindergarden class. If Governor Wolf’s budget proposal is passed there will be an increase in school funding by $2-billion by instituting  a severance tax on natural gas and oil over the next four years. (Lauren Koch)
