UNDATED – Driving in winter weather can be hazardous. While it is smart to always use caution, PennDOT is urging drivers to also follow all traffic laws.
PennDOT’s Ashley Schoch says this is Highway Law Awareness Week, “The week was actually something we started this year to highlight all of the things we thought drivers may not be paying attention to.”
Schoch says some laws may be well known, but drivers do not take them seriously every time they get into a vehicle. She gives two examples, “Keep right, pass left. That focuses on the safety of passing only on the left, and not remaining in the left lane as the travel lane. Headlights on, wipers on. That requires that all vehicles should have their wipers and headlights on when operating in inclement weather.”
In snow, Schoch says it is also the law to clear your vehicle before driving. She says a driver could be fined for snow or ice that flies off the vehicle while driving. For more information go to justdrivepa.com. (Matthew James)
