UNDATED —  PennDOT and the PA Turnpike are preparing to send staff and equipment to Massachusetts.  The Pennsylvania teams are responding to a request to aid in snow removal.  Massachusetts requested the aid through the Emergency Management Assistance Compact.

Acting PennDOT Secretary Leslie Richards said, “We never know when winter weather or other emergencies will strike, so interstate cooperation is important in these times of need… Our emergency management procedures allow us to quickly mobilize assistance when we can spare our resources, and I commend our highway crews for answering the call to help out.”

PennDOT and the PA Turnpike could send staff and supplies as soon as Thursday.  Equipment includes, plow trucks mechanic trucks, backhoes and dump trucks.  At least 27 PennDOT operators and other staff, and at least 15 members of the PA Turnpike will head to Massachusetts.

PA Turnpike Commission Chairman Sean Logan said, “We determined that we could provide them the personnel and equipment without jeopardizing our own operations or the safety of our customers.”

Pennsylvania crews may stay up to seven days.  Massachusetts will reimburse PennDOT and the PA Turnpike for any incurred costs.  (Codi Jade)
