MONTOURSVILLE – Freezing drizzle in the forecast has PennDOT pre-treating roads in The Valley. Anti-icing involves wetting the highway with salt brine before a storm’s arrival. The solution lowers the freezing point of water and slows or prevents ice from forming on the pavement during the early stages of a storm.
Anti-icing trucks will be on interstate highways and other major routes in Montour, Northumberland, Snyder, and Union counties as well as counties in the northern tier.
PennDOT says the treatment isn’t a silver bullet and drivers should still use caution as slick spots may persist, particularly on bridges and overpasses. AccuWeather says rain temperatures will be around freezing when rain moves in during the early evening hours Friday.
