NORTHUMBERLAND – Some good news for residents of Northumberland—PennDOT going to revise their construction plans because of resident’s safety and traffic concerns. They are still going through with the project in 2017 and 2018.
PennDOT has sent a letter to residents in Northumberland detailing changes they are making. This comes following a meeting held at the end of March by local residents calling themselves Stop the DOT, who were concerned about the paving and construction project.
In the letter, PennDOT has noted several changes they have made due to concerns from residents. Resident Heather Harter talked about some of the changes that were made, “First of all, they are going to do the two block shutdown, instead of closing all of Duke and all of Water. They were going to close both bridges and now they are not going to close either of them. The letter did not state this, but I understand they are going to keep stop signs in at Third and Fifth, on both Orange and King, for the kids going to school.”
Overall, Harter is pleased with the changes PennDOT has outlined, “They were very receptive to the people, which is good. I understand it’s going to happen anyway and as long as they heard what people had to say, and it sounds like they did, they did some positive changes.”
