Local College Students to Receive COVID Settlement

Penn State will be paying up to students who paid for classes they didn’t receive. Anyone that was enrolled at Penn State during the beginning of the pandemic is due for a large settlement check.  It’s part of a 17-million-dollar class action settlement.  Several students claimed they paid for classes during the Spring 2020 semester and didn’t receive the services.  Penn State has over 90-thousand students.

Meanwhile, PennLive reports the $675,000 settlement of a COVID-19-related class action suit against Susquehanna University has been approved by a federal judge.  The result is that each of the 2,252 students in the class will receive slightly less than $200. Class members are those who paid tuition, mandatory health and activity fees, and were enrolled in at least one in-person class for the 2020 spring semester.

And the Standard Journal reports a federal judge has granted final approval to a $1.15 million class-action settlement between Bucknell University and students who alleged they were improperly charged for on-campus services during the COVID-19 shutdown in spring 2020. According to court documents filed June 12, approximately 3,500 students are eligible for compensation. The exact amount each student will receive depends on how many valid claims are submitted, but the average payout is expected to be a few hundred dollars.
