PA Secretary of Health named with big roles at Geisinger

DANVILLE – Geisinger Health System has reeled in a big name to step in some big roles with the company. Pennsylvania Secretary of Health Dr. Karen Murphy has been named Executive Vice President, Chief Innovation Officer and Founding Director of the Steele Institute for Healthcare Innovation at Geisinger. She will begin her new duties in September.

 

Prior to becoming Secretary of Health, Dr. Murphy served as Director of the State Innovation Models Initiative, a $900 million Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services investment designed to accelerate health care innovation across the United States. She previously served as President and Chief Executive Officer of the Moses Taylor Health Care System in Scranton. Dr. Murphy also was the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Physicians Health Alliance, Inc., an integrated medical group practice within Moses Taylor.
