SUNBURY — According to the News-Item, Northumberland County Children and Youth Services is seeking 20 new foster families by the end of the year. The goal is outlined during this week’s county commissioners meeting by new director Cleveland Way, who says he wants a foster care system rooted in community support.
Officials say the county currently has 122 children placed in foster or kinship homes, with dozens sent to private providers far from home. Foster coordinator Jennifer Carpenter says keeping children local helps maintain school, family, and sibling connections. Those interested in fostering can contact Children and Youth Services.
