Northumberland County Prison Inmate Injured in Escape Attempt

 

COAL TOWNSHIP — A Northumberland County prison inmate is charged with attempting to escape the jail by climbing over a fence.   31-year-old Stormie Birster is facing a felony charge of attempted escape for an incident March 28 at the Coal Township facility.

According to the Northumberland County District Attorney’s office, Birster was in an outdoor recreation area and she tried to scale a fence topped with razor wire. They say she sustained numerous lacerations in the failed attempt. Birster was treated by prison medical professionals, then transferred to Geisinger Shamokin,

During the subsequent investigation, authorities found she had arranged her cell to look like she was in bed.

According to NorthcentralPA.com, Birster was jailed in July of 2022 after police say she pushed her way into a house and fought several residents, including a young girl. She also allegedly stole an unlocked police cruiser and was broadcasting on the police radio.
