Duke Street project back underway, more projects coming
SHAMOKIN DAM – Road work in Northumberland is back underway, but more traffic concerns continue to emerge. PennDOT officials announced during Friday’s Greater Susquehanna Valley Chamber of Commerce Transportation Committee meeting, the project for the railroad bridge underpass on Water Street will cost about $3 million and will mean a detour for Route north in place by July.
Ted Deptula, PennDOT Assistant Construction Engineer, says work on Route 11 south, from south of Duke Street toward the river bridge will begin in the end of June, “Traffic will be a single lane condition from Route 11 north bound coming from the River Bridge towards Northumberland. That’ll take place sometime after the Fourth of July Holiday and will continue until around November.”
Deptula then says the contractor will reconstruct Route 11 North from the River Bridge to Duke Street and a similar detour will be in place.
Deptula also provided other updates with work on Duke Street, “Soon, they’ll be installing some under drains and will be preparing for paving. The section that’s closed right now between Fifth and Rope Walk Avenue will be paved in the next few weeks. And then the contractor will be working south between Rope Walk Avenue and Third Street.”
He said pipe work is also soon be completed on Front Street at Sheetz Avenue.
