DANVILLE – Fiscal responsibility is paying off in Montour County. Commissioner Trevor Finn tells WKOK the 2016 county budget will not have a tax increase.
Additionally, because of austerity measures instituted in September, Finn says the county should not need to borrow money prior to year’s end to make up for lack of funding from the commonwealth.
In October, Judge Thomas James approved the county’s request for $500,000 in short-term borrowing, but Finn says now they do not believe they will need the funds to make ends meet through the end of the year.
The budget impasse in Harrisburg has left many counties, school districts and social service agencies without adequate funding for the year.
