LONG POND, PA – The Pocono Record is reporting…The Pocono Raceway doubleheader weekend is no more. NASCAR revealed the 2022 Cup Series schedule in a press release on Wednesday, and Pocono Raceway will host just one race next year. The race is scheduled for July 24, roughly a month later into the season than the doubleheader weekends Pocono hosted in 2020 and 2019. Pocono’s will be the 24th race of the season, including the all-star race.
The loss of the doubleheader comes just two years after Pocono hosted NASCAR’s first Cup Series doubleheader. The Tricky Triangle introduced the racing world to a unique format that seemed fitting for a raceway with a unique track. “Although we are disappointed NASCAR has chosen to eliminate one of the two NASCAR Cup Series races at Pocono Raceway, we will continue to persevere and provide the best family-friendly experience and value to our guests,” the Mattioli and Igdalsky families, owners of Pocono Raceway, said in a press release. “We believe in the future of NASCAR and will continue to innovate alongside them.”
