SELINSGROVE – A new Valley CEO says being a mom is a great training ground for leadership. Kendra Aucker, the newly selected president and CEO of Evangelical Community Hospital received the Adam Smith Distinguished Leadership Award Thursday from Economics Pennsylvania.
In her remarks, Aucker noted being a mother was included in her list of accomplishments. She then pointed out the unique leadership skills that come from motherhood, “Learning leadership is a natural result of raising children. If motherhood doesn’t give you the skills to deal with sometimes difficult people in challenging situations both in and out of the home, what does?”
Aucker went on to say that community leaders are important role models for the next generation, “While I appreciate this honor, I am no different than any woman in this room who are committed to doing our best. The same should be said about all the fathers in the room. In reality, whether you’re a mother or a father, a woman or a man, we should wish for all children a life defined as a circle of people. Everyone in this room contributes to the leadership of our communities and the region.”
Economics Pennsylvania selects a recipient of the Distinguished Leadership Award annually, who help students become entrepreneurial, productive members of the workforce. (WKOK staff)
