Untitled-1DANVILLE — A doctor says it is a “dream come true” to leave the warm west coast to take on the leadership role at Geisinger Health System, in Danville.   52-year-old Dr. David Feinberg says he and his family are beyond excited for the opportunity.

“I’ve been studying this organization for about five or six years,” Feinberg said.  “Geisinger is so important in American medicine today, because it’s had a history now — almost 100 years — of really pushing the envelope around innovation, about how to deliver care… To be able to become part of the Geisinger family, to me, is really, really a dream come true.”

Dr. Feinberg will take on the role of President and CEO, following the retirement of Dr. Glenn Steele Jr.   Feinberg says while he has big shoes to fill, he does not feel intimidated, “I feel so excited and energized.  For the last 25 years at UCLA, I’ve had great success.  I think I’ve had success because I come to work every day with passion, I’m very focused on integrity, and I’m also really humble.  I know it’s not me that is going to make Geisinger great, it is going to be all the healers that are there.  When I say healers, I mean the board, to the people cleaning the rooms, to the people sending out the bills, to our folks in the insurance company — it is everybody.  This healthcare is a team sport.  If it was all up to me, I think that I would be very intimidated, but it is not all up to me.  I’m going to be surrounded by incredible people, an incredible legacy, and I couldn’t be more proud and excited to become part of it.”

Dr. Feinberg will begin his duties as President and CEO May 1.  Feinberg currently serves as president of the University of California at Los Angeles Health System; chief executive officer, UCLA Hospital System; and Associate Vice Chancellor, UCLA Health Sciences in California.

Geisinger made the announcement Monday afternoon. Feinberg will be the sixth chief executive officer in Geisinger’s 100-year history.  Steele announced his retirement in July of  2014.  He held the leadership position since 2001.   Feinberg was on the WKOK Newsline Monday afternoon.
