LEWISBURG – The embattled Union County Housing Authority has more questions to answer. The newest member of the authority said Friday, he wants an outside review of the controversial Penn Commons property transfer. During his first meeting, Dr. Michael Hanyak, Jr. questioned the authority’s procedures, and called attention to potential ‘conflicts of interest’ on the authority board.
Friday, Dr. Hanyak said it was unclear whether the Penn Commons property in East Buffalo Township, was actually transferred by the authority to the developer, Lewisburg Housing LP. The 2.3 acres is the site of a 31-unit affordable housing development.
Hanyak called for an outside review of the deed transfers. A motion was passed to retain attorney J. Michael Wiley, at a rate of $150 per hour, to determine whether the property transfer was valid. Wiley will present his opinion within 30 days.
Meanwhile, site preparation work has already begun on the property including tree and building removal.
