National Blue Ribbons Honors announced for two local schools

LEWISBURG– Two local schools were recognized for their outstanding overall academic performance this past week. U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos recognized 18 Pennsylvania schools as National Blue Ribbon Schools for 2017. Berwick Area High School and Donald H. Eichhorn Middle School in Lewisburg made it onto this year’s list.

The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program honors public and private elementary, middle, and high schools where students achieve high learning standards or are making significant improvements in closing the achievement gap. In a statement, they say 35 years, the program has given recognition to over 8,500 schools and will celebrate with the honorees at an awards ceremony on November 6-7 in Washington, D.C.

Schools are honored as either an Exemplary High Performing School, or an Exemplary Achievement Gap Closing School, which is based on all student scores, subgroup student scores, and graduation rates.
