LEWISBURG — Music can change a kid’s life — and the Local Music Collective is ready to provide that pivot point. The Lewisburg-based group is hosting a “Get to Know the Instruments” event Saturday. Flora Eyster and Fred Strickland are musicians who hope to share their love of music.
Eyster said, “May 2 is a great chance to come from 1:00 to 4:00p.m. They will try out instruments and they will meet mentors who are potentially matched to them… and they’ll get to enjoy a free concert afterward.”
“We are always looking for new ways to promote music, and that is why this concept really appealed to us. Music just so enriches a person’s life, we want to share it with everybody,” Strickland said.
If matched with a mentor, students will get three reduced-rate lessons throughout the summer. Eyster said, “We have the most interesting group of people offering to mentor from the Collective. Along with Robert M. Sides bringing their band instruments, we will also have some unusual things. We’ll have drums, banjo, mandolin, hammer dulcimer, trumpet, bass guitar, violin, guitar, saxophone, ukulele, accordion, flute, keyboards…”
Along with instruments, there will also be coaching on recording, stage presence and electronic music. A free concert will follow the mentor matching program.
