More than 100 attend United Way awards ceremony and annual meeting

LEWISBURG — The Campus Theatre was the site of the 2017 awards ceremony and annual meeting of the Greater Susquehanna Valley United Way.  The event kicked off with a performance by the Milton High School Choir, singing “If I Could Change the World”.

United Way president and CEO Joanne Troutman spoke about their goals, “2016 saw us take the next step in the gradual shift toward collective impact.  This means pulling together a group of individuals from different sectors with the common agenda for solving specific social problems.  Our hope is this will ultimately mean bigger dollars, in the form of major gifts and grants to multiple partners, which will support bigger solutions.”

This year’s Mission United Award went to the 17th Judicial District Drug and Alcohol Treatment Courts.  Judge Michael Hudock accepted the award, “I would like to recognize the heart and soul of our program, the people who truly deserve the award.  Those people are our director, our probation officers and the treatment managers from CMSU.”

The Pat Toole Leadership Award went to Marsha Lemons, The Florence Pyle Dedicated Service Award for outstanding volunteerism and leadership went to Susan Jordan and the Lifetime of Caring Award went to Gary and Sandy Sojka.  The Business of the Year was UPS.  Troutman also told the crowd that for the first time, the United Way contributions, gifts, grants and other sources of income totaled $903,000.   (Ali Stevens)
