SELINSGROVE – A vacant home in the Monroe Manor development near Selinsgrove was heavily damaged by fire Sunday night. The fire started around 10 p.m. at a home on Greenbrier Avenue near Lost Creek Drive.
Hummels Wharf Fire Chief Jeff Buckley tells us the fire started in the living room of the first floor of the home and spread through the back and up to the roof. The fire was put out in about 15 minutes, but crews were on the scene for several hours putting out the fire that had spread to small pockets in the roof and inside the walls. No firefighters were injured. The home sustained heavy fire, smoke and water damage to the interior.
The cause of the fire is not known, but Buckley said it is not suspicious. A fire marshal has been called to investigate. Buckley said the homeowner, who has not been identified, may have rented the home, but no one had been living there for quite some time. Firefighters from Selinsgrove, Shamokin Dam Kreamer and Freeburg assisted Hummels Wharf at the scene. (Ali Stevens)
