Montandon man charged with attempted homicide

FEAT_HANDCUFF_GENERIC1MONTANDON – A Montandon man is facing charges for allegedly assaulting a woman and firing a gun near her.  Police say John Aten Jr. got into an argument with a woman and sent her a text message threatening to kill her.  Police say he wrapped his arms around the woman’s neck and put a gun to her head.

The woman tried to get away and police say Aten wrestled her to the ground and choked her.  She was able to escape to the porch of the home and screamed for someone to call police.  Police say Aten grabbed the woman by the hair and was trying to pull her back inside, when the gun discharged and a bullet lodged into the exterior door jam and wall.

The woman finally got away and ran to her vehicle and fled the scene.  State police were able to arrest Aten without incident and he was sent to Snyder County Prison without bail.  He is charged with attempted homicide, aggravated and simple assault, terroristic threats and reckless endangerment. The woman sustained injuries to her head, neck and hands.  (Ali Stevens)
