Sunbury Man, Mifflinburg School Staffer, Charged with Child Porn

MIFFLINBURG – The Mifflinburg Area School District employee who the district said Thursday was arrested and charged is a Sunbury man; he’s facing felony child pornography charges.

Court documents say charged is 25-year-old Brendan Stepp. He’s charged with four counts of felony child pornography and three felony counts of disseminating photos and film of child sex acts. Court documents say he posted $25,000 bail after being arraigned at the office of District Judge Mike Toomey in Sunbury.

Court documents say the state police Northeast Computer Crimes Unit received seven flagged files from Stepp between December 26 and December 28, 2022. Troopers said all seven flagged files were images of child sexual abuse material, one involving a 10-year-old girl.

Troopers say they then conducted a search of Stepp’s devices at his Sunbury home and found videos of child sexual acts.

Troopers say Stepp then voluntarily came to the Stonington barracks for further review, and admitted to the images and videos involving girls under the age of 18 and as young as eight years old.

The Mifflinburg School District issued a statement Thursday afternoon saying it was made aware of the arrest and ‘had not been aware of what happened’ until it was notified by authorities Thursday. The district said in Thursday’s statement it was working with authorities, and did not disclose Stepp’s identity or any incident details.
