SUNBURY – Sunbury River Festival kicked off Thursday at The Valley’s Got Talent. Sixteen performances including dance, vocal performance and even a rendition of the William Tell Overture played on teeth played to a sell-out crowd at the Shikellamy High School.

In the end, 14-year-old Kenzie McCarter from Mifflin County went home with the top prize. McCarter performed a Carrie Underwood song and says she’s a big fan of country music, “I’d like to move to Nashville after high school, after I graduate and pursue a country music career.”

McCarter, who will be freshman in high school this fall says she hasn’t decided on how to spend all of the $400 prize, “probably bring my parents to dinner since they drove me an hour here.”

The trio of Olivia Gittens, Bernadette Chaney and Kierra Smith took second place and Nicole Pascolini rounded out the top three. (Jennifer Wakeman)
