SHAMOKIN – A Shamokin police officer, who made the ultimate sacrifice, was remembered Monday night at a memorial dedicated in his honor. He was described as being a dedicated law enforcement member and a stellar family man. Corporal David Witmer was shot by Preston Pfeifly [PIE flee] in 1993.
Monday night dozens of police officers gathered in his memory with a ceremony and remarks about his legacy. Pfeifly was drunk and shooting at police when officer Witmer was hit and killed. Pfeifly was convicted but spared the death penalty and died in prison about ten years ago.
