SUNBURY – A Valley city is hoping to attract tourists by promoting sports and historical events. Sunbury mayor David Persing will be proposing the creation of a Sports/Historical Destination Management Team.
If city council and the Sunbury recreation board approve, the team will be responsible for developing strategies to increase sporting events and historic promotional events in the city. Persing says, “Our goal will be to make Sunbury a destination city within the Commonwealth. We will market Sunbury as a weekend entertainment location for all families.”
The mayor believes the new marketing approach will create additional opportunities for economic development. He cites an upcoming Little League event taking place in the city as an example of new opportunites for tourism.
Mayor Persing will outline his proposal to city council at their meeting June 27. (Jennifer Wakeman)
