Man seeking release from prison due to delayed trial

court-hammer-gavel1-293x220SUNBURY – A Kulpmont man accused of sexually assaulting a teen girl wants to be released from prison, since he hasn’t been brought to trial within 180 days, a violation of Rule 600.  47-year-old Michael Vellner is accused of inappropriately touching a 14-year-old girl who slept at his house last year.

He’s been held at SCI Coal Township since his arrest in April on $80,000 bail. The Daily Item reports his attorney, Michael Rudinski, appeared in Northumberland County Court on Monday for a status conference, asking the judge for Vellner’s release.  Judge Charles Saylor has not yet ruled on the matter.  (Ali Stevens)
