Man enters plea to theft before trial begins in Union County

LEWISBURG — A man charged with stealing tools from two different businesses will avoid today’s scheduled trial after pleading no contest.  35-year-old Ryan Smith of Lewisburg will be sentenced in June on two counts of theft and one count of criminal trespass.

He was scheduled for trial today, but entered a no contest plea on Thursday in Union County Court.  Smith faces two to eight years in state prison.  He is accused of stealing tools and other items from two businesses in Mifflinburg and Lewisburg.  The stolen items were valued at more than $5,500.  (Ali Stevens)
