LEWISBURG – A Milton man is facing charges after fleeing police in Union County. Buffalo Valley Regional Police say 49-year-old Frank Beitz was driving erratically through Lewisburg just after midnight April 23.
When police attempted to stop Beitz on Stein Lane, he fled the scene at a high rate of speed. Other officers were called in to assist, eventually placing stop sticks on the roadway at the intersection of Stein Lane and Route 304 to deflate the tires and bring the car to a stop.
Beitz drove over the stop sticks, nearly striking an officer with his car and continued driving even after a front tire deflated and flew off the car. Eventually, Beitz stopped and fled into a field on foot where he was arrested by police on suspicion of DUI.
He is charged with a felony count of fleeing and eluding police as well as DUI, driving with a suspended license and other charges related to the incident. Beitz is being held in Union County jail on a probation detainer.
