Hughesville, Pa. — North Central PA is reporting. Police located two guns and drugs inside the vehicle of a convicted felon who crashed his car, according to an affidavit.
A handgun and .22 caliber long rifle were located after Donald Woodside, 51, gave permission to search his vehicle on Nov. 11 while speaking with police, Trooper Matthew Patrick said. Marijuana, baggies that contained a crystalized substance, and gummies were found inside the front pocket of Woodside’s pants, Patrick added.
State police were called to a two-vehicle crash in the morning that happened in the 900 block of Holmes Road, according to the report. Both people involved were cleared by EMTs as troopers arrived.
According to Patrick’s affidavit, Woodside smelled of marijuana when he spoke with troopers. He failed both a standardized and advanced field sobriety test before being arrested for DUI. Troopers located the drugs once Woodside gave consent to search his pockets.
A handgun was found under the driver’s seat, along with a rifle in the trunk, police said. A clear glass pipe was in a compartment underneath the radio, they added.
Woodside, who was convicted of selling drugs in 2001, is not allowed to possess a firearm, according to Patrick.
He is being charged with first-degree felony possession of a firearm, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, careless driving, and DUI.
Woodside was released from custody on $50,000 unsecured bail. He is scheduled to appear in early December for a preliminary hearing.
