Local students to watch unveiling of T-Rex exhibit

T-RexSUNBURY – Nearly 500 elementary school students from the Shikellamy School District will be watching the unveiling of a T-Rex exhibit in Germany…via Skype.  State Representative Lynda Schlegel Culver (R-108th, Sunbury) says she will watch the unveiling “Tristan,”a Tyrannosaurus-Rex exhibit, with the students.  The exhibit will be at the Naturkunde Museum in Berlin, Germany.

Last year, students participated in a related workshop at Sunbury Community Hospital, coordinated by paleontologists Barry and April James of Sunbury.  Barry James shared some of the rare T-Rex bones with the kids before CT scans were conducted.  The students have been following the restoration of the dinosaur bones and will be able to watch the unveiling by web streaming from Germany.

With more than 150 of its 300 bones recovered, Tristan is one of the most complete Tyrannosaurus skeletons in the world.  The bones were discovered in Montana in 2011.  The Skype session will take place December 17th at 1 p.m. in the Shikellamy High School Auditorium.  (Ali Stevens)
