POINT TOWNSHIP – Police in Point Township, Northumberland County, say they have suspects in the 10 burglaries, which have occurred lately. Police Chief Joshua VanKirk says they are investigating, information is developing, some search warrants have been executed, but he can’t identify the suspects. VanKirk says this is the second burglary ring this year. In March, three or four burglaries were reported and police were able to apprehend at least three suspects. VanKirk says some of the recent break-ins have been outside his township, so they are working with state troopers, and local police in Milton and Danville.
Chief VanKirk says in the meantime, residents need to be vigilant. He recommends watching for people pulling into driveways during the day, who might appear to be visitors, but actually might be entering unlocked homes or forcing their way inside.
Neighbors are asked to try to obtain license plate numbers or suspect descriptions and are encouraged to call police immediately if they see suspicious behavior. VanKirk also recommends that residents take pictures of their valuables, including jewelry, guns and electronics, and keep track of serial numbers in a personal file. (Ali Stevens)
