SUNBURY – Big news for fans of the Shikellamy State Park Overlook. The Merrill Linn Conservancy recently purchased a 36-acre tract of land adjacent to the overlook property. They say the ecologically significant piece of land on the Shikellamy bluffs will be conveyed to DCNR and will become part of the Shikellamy State Park. Linn Conservancy board member, Warren Abrahamson says the land will not be developed.
The land, formerly owned by Richard and Miranda McGinnis, hosts one federally endangered bird species. Abrahamson says this is why the land is so special.
The Linn Conservancy had assistance from a wide range of county and state related agencies and boards, as well as many other private and non-profit entities, all of whom they say deserve credit for helping in the transaction.
The Conservancy’s mission is to preserve and protect resources that we depend on such as forests, agricultural land, and waterways. For more information, visit www.linnconservancy.org (Sarah Benek)
