MONTOURSVILLE – It’s time to do some litter clean up around The Valley. PennDOT is asking motorists to keep an eye out for litter pick-up crews along highways when the weather warms up. PennDOT District 3-0 in Montoursville says volunteers are resuming the ‘Adopt A Highway’ program again this year, which means they’ll fan out along state roads throughout our region.
PennDOT says 349 groups volunteer to pick up litter on nearly 854 miles of state-owned roadways. In Northumberland, Snyder, Union, Montour, and Columbia County, they say there are 161 groups who have adopted over 330 miles of highway around here.
A PennDOT spokesperson said, “There will be no impacts to traffic during litter cleanup activities. Motorists are reminded to slow down, drive with caution, be alert for stopped or slow-moving vehicles, and watch for workers near the roadway, along interchanges and entrance/exit ramps.
