Lewisburg Sprint Triathlon and Kids Triathlon return

RunIILEWISBURG – The annual Lewisburg Sprint Triathlon and the Kids Triathlon are fast approaching.  The events are scheduled for Friday and Saturday August 12 and 13 in Lewisburg.  Tara Michaels is race organizer and says this is the 11th year for the Sprint Triathlon and 10th year for the Kids Triathlon.

Michaels said, “You know it’s a great event for our community and we get lots of area racers coming out, but it also brings quite a few people from out of town, and different states.  Some avid triathletes make it a point to keep our event on their schedule and come back and check out Lewisburg and our triathlon.”

The Sprint Triathlon starts with a swim at the Lewisburg Community Pool, “We set it up so it’s a serpentine swim, which means you start on one side and you swim down a lane and up the other lane and down a lane and all the way until you get to the other side of the pool and that gets you to about 300 yards. And then our bike ride is 15 miles and the run is 3.25.”
And for the kids, there is a triathlon on Friday just for them, “That’s for kids 7 to 14 and that’s an awesome event.  Just seeing those kids and how proud of themselves they are, it’s just amazing.  We have three different age groups there, 7 to 9, 10 to 12, and 13 and 14-year olds.”

To register for either event, you can go to www.afitevent.com.  Volunteers are needed along the course and if you can help out, you can email Tara Michaels at events@afitevent.com.  (Ali Stevens)
