LEWISBURG – The public is invited to take part in a design workshop to look at how the Susquehanna River impacts Lewisburg borough. Samantha Pearson, Elm Street Manager in Lewisburg, says they are holding a River Town Design Charrette on Wednesday from 6 to 9 p.m.
Pearson said, “A charrette is a public design workshop that’s intended to help people who aren’t designers take part in the design process in a meaningful way. People may be familiar with public meetings. They see them advertised. In reality, you know that sometimes when you show up, the people organizing them are like, there’s too many people here. We want a lot of people at the design charrette.”
Pearson says they are also gathering information prior to Wednesday’s event, “We actually have a survey that is circulating right now online. That is actually helping some people sort of get their thinking started. It takes about 10 minutes to do the survey. It asks you a bunch of different questions about your personal opinion about the river, it’s current status and it’s future and potential. We think that’s a good way of just starting the thought process.”
The Lewisburg River Town Team began in 2014 as a collaboration between the borough, the Lewisburg Neighborhoods Corporation, the Lewisburg Downtown Partnership, the Buffalo Valley Recreation Authority and the Susquehanna Greenway Partnership. A group of Bucknell University seniors are also working with the group.
The survey can be found online at www.lewisburgneighborhoods.org or you can pick one up at the Lewisburg Borough Office. The charrette will be held at the Lewisburg Club from 6 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday. The event is open to anyone with an interest in the community’s connection to the Susquehanna River. (Ali Stevens)
