LEWISBURG – It has been home to students for 88 years, but the Lewisburg High School will close it’s doors Tuesday. Students will return from an extended Thanksgiving holiday to a new 183,000 square foot building on Newman Road in Kelly Township.

Staff and faculty will spend the week after the holiday preparing for the first day of classes December 5. Mark Temple, athletic director, said the basketball teams will continue to play at the Donald H. Eichhorn middle school gymnasium until the new gym floor is complete and bleachers are installed in December.

Students are finding their lockers and touring the new facility this week and an opening ceremony for the new building is scheduled for December 5 at 4 p.m.

On Tuesday, a closing ceremony will be held at the old high school on Market Street at 7 p.m. Alumni will share memories and a nostalgic video will be shown. Additionally, an item from the old school will be presented to be incorporated into the foundation of the new building. The public is invited to attend.
