SHAMOKIN DAM – A Valley legislator feels an upcoming public meeting on the Central Susquehanna Valley Transportation Project, is a great opportunity for local residents. Lynda Schlegel Culver (R-108th, Sunbury) says the public needs to voice their concerns about any proposed road changes in Monroe Township, Snyder County. Three road closures and two cul de sacs, as well as other design changes for the CSVT, have been proposed by PennDOT.
Schlegel Culver said, “We’ve already gotten some calls, just with questions. People are kind of digesting the information. We have some that are very unhappy and some that have their own suggestions. I think when PennDOT looked at the new plan, they looked at some of the issues that had been arising and many of them have been sight distance issues, with people pulling in and out of traffic. Some have been the speed that people are maintaining through that area, which adds to the safety issue.”
Schlegel Culver talked about proposed roundabouts that are concerning to some residents, “Everybody fears a roundabout and the federal government highly encourages you to look at them, in any situation that they apply. They did look at them in many situations and they wouldn’t have worked in some, but they believe they will work down there [Monroe Township]. This is not the final draft. It’s not the final plan. They are seeking public input so that people can tell them why it would work, why it won’t work, or what their concerns are.”
Monroe Township supervisors have scheduled a meeting for the public to provide input on proposed changes to the design of the southern section of the CSVT. It will be held June 13 at 6:30p.m. at the Monroe Township Municipal Building. (Ali Stevens)
