SUNBURY – A retired Columbia County farmer is now running for state senate. 27th district Independent candidate District Larry Breech of Millville was a recent guest on WKOK Sunrise where he discussed why he is running for office and his view on the big issues.
Breech said he’s strong on environmental issues, “Farmers are the first environmentalists. First and foremost, they live on the farm, they raise their children on their farm, they eat the food grown from the farm, they drink the water from the farm, they live in that air. They are your first and foremost primary source of environmentalists. We will be working very closely with the Chesapeake Bay Commission and Foundation and all others to make sure we have constitutionally mandated clean air and clean water.”
Breech explained the importance of agriculture and how it has been neglected in our government, “How to get a smaller government is you gut the benefits, you gut the programs and you help the little guy. I’ll give you a good example of this being involved in agriculture. If you were to walk over of the fourth floor of the agriculture building now after the Corbett administration, you’d only need to drop the temperature ten degrees and you could turn it into a morgue. Number one industry in the country, number one industry in the world, the most important industry and the support it has had under the Republican mandate is just appalling.”
Breech explained the campaign might be a tough road, but he will make sure the issues he is most concerned about will be addressed, “I started to farm from scratch. I know what a tough road to hoe is. But you know, someone has to do it. Someone has to speak up and someone has to step forward and say ok, you’re going to kick me in the teeth, you’re going to drive me into the ground but by golly, we’re going to start something different and you’re going to have address these issues that you’ve have ignored and swept under the rug for twenty years.”
