Large turnout for Apple funeral

John Apple3

SUNBURY — Hundreds of people came out to pay their respects to a local business and community leader Friday.  John Apple was honored at the Zion Lutheran Church.

Pastor Richard Fangmann gave the eulogy, “Betty and the kids and grandkids — he loved you and was very proud and committed to you.  He worked within you to teach you what was important in life.  He also extended that sense of family to the church, to the company, to the community in which he lived.  He was a part of it.  He shared his talent, his concern and his gifts with all of us.”

Fangmann went on to say, “Even when things got tough in those last few years when he was missing Betty so much, when I went to see John I was greeted with a warm welcome… John knew how to work hard to get things done to be successful, but he also knew that ultimately it was people that were important.”

There were a wide range of guests, including judges, elected and appointed government leaders, businessmen, friends and family.   During visitation the coffin was draped with a flag, as Apple was a U.S. Army veteran.  During the service the coffin was draped in a white cloth.

Apple was vice president and part-owner of Butter Krust Baking Company.  He was born December 6, 1928 and died Monday at the age of 86.  (Codi Jade)
