Knife threat sends Sunbury man to jail

handcuffsSUNBURY — Police arrested a Sunbury man following an armed assault early Thursday morning. Sunbury Police say 49-year-old Fred Applewhite Jr. entered the home of his former girlfriend on Susquehanna Avenue. He allegedly assaulted a male in the home, pulling a knife on him and threatening to kill him.

Applewhite then reportedly put the knife to the woman’s throat and threatened to kill her. The woman escaped out of the rear of the home and was chased by Applewhite before she got into a vehicle and fled the scene.

Applewhite then reportedly went back to the home and destroyed almost all of the furniture. Neighbors called police and Applewhite was taken into custody as he attempted to flee the home. Applewhite is facing charges including burglary, criminal trespassing, aggravated assault, terroristic threats, recklessly endangering another person and more. He is in Northumberland County Prison.
