Kinetic Announces More High Speed Internet Access in Watsontown Area

WATSONTOWN – More high speed internet access is now available in the more rural areas of the Valley. Internet provider Kinetic announced this with state and local officials Wednesday.

They say more than 2,600 homes businesses, and schools in Watsontown and other areas in upper Northumberland and Union counties are now eligible for high-speed fiber internet.

“Kinetic has really been committed over the last few years to expanding their fiber network, even before all the federal and state focus with COVID. We already have about 6,000 customers in this area and we just continue to expand,” said Kinetic Regional President Susan Schraibman, who covers Pennsylvania.

She says residents can go to Kinetics.com to check eligibility, “They just log in, they can inquire about service. There’s prompts that will direct them. They can put in their address and that will tell them what their availability is.”

The project increases Kinetic’s presence in the area by nearly 45%, laying about 20 miles of optical fiber cable. The service is no cost to residents, as the project is also part of Kinetic’s $2 billion multiyear capital investment strategy to dramatically expand gigabit fiber service.

But Schraibman says there’s still more to do, “We’re talking to communities regularly about what their needs are. Some communities have specific projects that they want or funding. We’ve partnered with many communities on helping to assist with those bills.”

Schraibman also says Kinetic will be hosting a pop-up event Thursday at Wagging Tail Coffee Co in Watsontown from 8 a.m. to noon. She says residents can check for eligibility there as well, and there will be door prizes and drawings.
