Kantz seeks reelection with Republican counterpart

kantzSELINSGROVE — The duo of Republican Snyder County Commissioners are running for reelection.  Joe Kantz says he hopes the people of Snyder County will vote for he and Malcolm Derk once again.

“I can tell you right now that if Malcolm was not running, I would not be running,” Kantz said.  “We have such a great partnership with the way we feed off of each other.  He’s got some strengths that I don’t have.  I’ve got some strengths he doesn’t have.  Together we work really well.  We do it right, we do it legally, and we do it the way it is supposed to be done at the meeting, not offline.  I take pride in that.”

Kantz says he enjoys being a commissioner, but adds it is a full-time job, and he is on-call 24/7, “I applaud public servants who put their lives on hold, essentially.  It seems that way, anyway, you can ask my wife.  It is a lot of time, if you are doing the job right and you’re really committed to it and you are passionate about it.   There are those people who are out there, maybe just collecting a paycheck — those are the people who maybe give politicians a bad name… I always tell people, no I’m not a politician, I’m a public servant.  I just do what I fell is best for the people that I represent.”

Kantz is chairman of the Snyder County Commissioners.  He and Derk have run together for two previous terms.  He was a guest on WKOK’s On The Mark program Monday.  (Codi Jade)
