Justin Wilson Dies From Injuries Suffered at Pocono

UPDATE – Indycar announced Monday night that Justin Wilson has died from injuries suffered in the ABC Supply 500 at Pocono on Sunday.

 

Long Pond, PA – Andretti Autosports driver Justin Wilson suffered a head injury Sunday during an Indy car race at Pocono. Late in the race Wilson appeared to be hit in the head by debris from the car of Sage Karam who had crashed seconds before. Wilson was flown from the track via helicopter to Lehigh Valley Health Network Cedar Crest Hospital when he was listed in critical condition and in a coma.

Friday before the race weekend at Pocono, Wilson visited with children at the Janet Weis Children’s Hospital in Danville.

Verizon IndyCar Series driver Justin Wilson sustained a severe head injury during today’s event at Pocono Raceway. Wilson is currently in coma and in critical condition while undergoing further evaluation at Lehigh Valley Health Network-Cedar Crest Hospital.

INDYCAR sends its thoughts and prayers to Justin, his family and Andretti Autosport during this difficult time.
