SUNBURY – A district magistrate has recused himself from the case against Northumberland County’s prothonotary. District Judge Benjamin Apfelbaum recused himself from presiding over Justin Dunkelberger’s preliminary hearing on charges of theft, related to the Phil Lockcuff Memorial Scholarship Fund. That hearing, scheduled for Tuesday, will likely be continued, but there is no word yet as to which judge will take the case.
Dunkelberger is also facing a DUI charge from last summer. In December, all Northumberland County judges were recused and the DUI case was transferred to Judge Michael Hudock in Snyder County. A hearing is scheduled for March 14 for the DUI.
