Inmate Injuries Officers, Damages Cell in Separate Incidents

COAL TOWNSHIP – A Northumberland County Prison inmate has charged with two separate incidents earlier this month in which he injured three correctional officers and damaged his cell.

The Northumberland County District Attorney’s office says charged is Tyreese Johnson for the April 1 and 12 incidents at the jail.

The DA says the April 1 incident occurred when Johnson was uncooperative during the booking and medical process. That led to a struggle with three correctional officers, each suffering minor injuries. The DA says Johnson was charged with misdemeanor counts of simple assault.

The April 12 incident occurred when Johnson broke his cell window with a chair and then kicking the window. The DA says Johnson was upset, believing he had a court date and no one took him to that appearance. The DA says Johnson was ordered to pay $600 in restitution for the damage.
