COAL TOWNSHIP – An inmate at SCI Coal Township has died. State Correctional Institution Superintendent Thomas McGinley says 50-year-old Ronnie Brooks was pronounced dead just after 1 p.m. Tuesday after being found unresponsive in his cell.
The prison says staff immediately responded after finding Brooks unresponsive and provided life-saving measures but were unsuccessful.
Brooks was serving a two-to-five year sentence for a gun charge and had been at the facility since May 2018. The official cause of death will be determined by the Northumberland County Coroner’s Office.
