UNDATED – Bitter cold wind chills and high winds brought havoc to The Valley Sunday. PPL said they were—and are—dealing with tens of thousands of power outages. Some of the electric restoration estimates are as late as Thursday of the week.
Some places, like Bloomsburg, declared ‘Code Blue,’ which is an emergency declaration that changes the town’s response to homelessness. Agape, based in Bloomsburg, has a temporary place for homeless people to stay overnight, when there is ‘Code Blue’ in Bloomsburg.
PennDOT said downed trees and wires blocked roads around The Valley. Sections of Route 147, Ridge Road, Troxelville Road and many others were blocked for a time. The full and current list is at 511pa.com
The National Weather Service said winds speeds averaged 10-20 miles per hour throughout the day. Gusts between 40 and 50 miles per hour were recorded at the Penn Valley, and Williamsport airports.
Area 9-1-1 communications centers said they were kept busy with trees and wires down, roads blocked and property damage from the high winds. No injuries were reported during the stores.
Several vehicles were said to be damaged by a dangling traffic signal in Shamokin Dam.
