LEWISBURG – Classes were interrupted as over 500 Bucknell students walked out of class at 11:15 Friday morning to demonstrate against the election of Donald Trump. The protest was loosely organized Thursday night, shared online and through word-of-mouth.

An organizer of the event, Mona Mohammed, said in a Facebook post, “It’s an effort to make a statement about the election. We will not continue life as normal and be passive when so many lives and rights are at stake.”

Gathering in the quad, opening statements were made, followed by chants of “stand up, fight back.” After the open-mic, students split into groups to discuss the election, the state of the nation, and solutions. Some professors and faculty members joined, sharing their ideas.

A meeting will be held on the Bucknell campus at 7 p.m tonight in the LC Student Space to discuss “actionable steps that should be taken in the wake of the election results.”
