House speaker Mike Turzai: “No” to Gov. Wolf

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) – Despite criticism from Gov. Tom Wolf, Pennsylvania legislators won’t be called into session before Monday. House Speaker Mike Turzai said Tuesday that leaders of both parties agreed there will be no House sessions through Sunday and that representatives will be on a six-hour call starting Monday. The Senate also does not plan to convene this week.

The Republican speaker issued the memo hours after the Democratic governor chided GOP lawmakers for sending him a budget plan that he opposed and then leaving Harrisburg for the holidays. The Democratic governor rejected parts of the proposal but released overdue payments for schools and social services. Wolf spokesman Jeff Sheridan says it’s unacceptable for legislators to continue their holiday break while they should be concentrating on a budget.
