WASHINGTON, D.C. – A Valley Congressman is spearheading the effort to curtail “high impact” regulations. Congressman Tom Marino (R-10th, Cogan Station) says businesses are forced to comply with excessive regulatory burdens that only further stall economic growth.
He outlined the REVIEW Act of 2016 which was passed in the House this week, “Excessive regulation prevents job creation, as it has across this country and particularly in my district. What we have put together is this REVIEW Act that says if and while a regulation is challenged in court, business must not immediately implement the new rules at an enormous cost.”
He gave an example of how regulations can impact a local business owner, “The issue is we are a little short of water, so farmers might want to move their cows from one field to the next. Well, EPA and other regulatory agencies in the country have said, no, you are not allowed to move your cows in all of the fields, and they have come in and determined how one can move their cows.”
REVIEW stands for Require Evaluation before Implementing Executive Wishlists. It passed in the House by a vote of 244-180. The bill was introduced by Marino, who is the chairman of the Regulatory Reform, Commercial and Antitrust Law Subcommittee. (Ali Stevens)
